Dental implants are something that you can invest in at various stages of life. Seeing our implant specialist in The Woodlands may be something you want to do right away after tooth loss, or years after an emergency tooth extraction in The Woodlands.

If you’re contemplating implants, here are some of the most common situations when it’s worth speaking to our Conroe periodontist about whether they’re right for you:

You’re About to Have Teeth Pulled

One of the best times to talk with our doctors at PCE about getting dental implants is before you’ve actually lost any teeth. Depending on your situation and oral health, implants can be placed at the same time as your extraction or shortly thereafter. Having a treatment plan in place will minimize the time you go with missing teeth or risk changes in your bite’s alignment

Our doctors at PCE work closely with our general dentist to create are plan that is efficient and keeps your overall oral health in mind.

Your Denture is Uncomfortable

Whether you’re in a partial or full denture (aka “plate”) your mouth will continue changing. The altered fit of your prosthesis may lead to chafing or sore spots on your gums and roof of your mouth. Such soreness can even lead to infections.

If you’re rushing home to take your denture out, instead of being able to keep it in until bedtime, it may be worthwhile to discuss replacing it with our Conroe dental implants.

It’s Hard to Eat or Talk

A bulky prosthesis or several missing teeth can permanently alter your diet and speaking capabilities. So much so, that it leads to embarrassment or changes in your social and professional life.

Since implants replicate the function of natural teeth, they’re one of the best ways to restore your bite’s previous look and feel.

Your Dental X-rays Show Shrinking Bone

Tooth loss will ultimately lead to resorption (shrinkage) of the bone in that area. In turn, this situation can cause sagging or sunken-in facial tissues (making you look older than you really are.) If not addressed quickly enough, the bone will continue shrinking.

Implants help strengthen the bone where they’re placed. Getting them inserted before bone loss is severe can help support adjacent structures (like your lips and cheeks.)

You’re Over 18

Can teenagers get dental implants? Not usually. That’s because their mouths (including their jawbones) are still developing and maturing. Once your teen is approaching graduation or about to go into college, they’re likely finished growing.

We generally recommend that all of our prospective implant patients are at least 18 years of age. If you’re a few years older, that’s even better! But until then, our doctors at PCE can provide a consultation and recommend any interim methods to promote a healthy dental implant placement at a later time.
